The ISAIL Secretariat announces the inclusion of Nirmal Patel as a Distinguished Expert, and Genevieve Donnellon-May and Arletta Gorecka as Emerging Specialists to the ISAIL Advisory Council, in accordance with Schedule 3 of the Bharat Pacific Charter. Their diverse expertise in AI-driven education, competition law, privacy, and geopolitical strategy significantly strengthens ISAIL’s mission to advance ethical AI governance, legal frameworks, and standardization, particularly through initiatives like the AiStandard.io Alliance.

The ISAIL Advisory Council guides our strategic vision, uniting experts, scholars, and professionals to shape responsible AI policy and innovation. By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, the Council drives ISAIL’s efforts to develop transparent, ethical, and interoperable AI frameworks, with a focus on India and the Indo-Pacific region. The inclusion of Nirmal Patel, Arletta Gorecka, and Genevieve Donnellon-May enhances our capacity to address AI’s multifaceted challenges, aligning with our commitment to the AiStandard.io Alliance and broader AI standardization goals.

Nirmal Patel
As CEO of Smart Paper and Chief Data Scientist at Playpower Labs, based in GIFT City, Gujarat, India, Nirmal Patel brings 15 years of expertise in software engineering, data science, AI, and learning science. His award-winning research in educational data has transformed learning outcomes, notably through Smart Paper, which impacts nearly 5 million students across 65,000 schools in Rajasthan by enabling equitable data collection and personalized learning. His collaborations with India’s Ministry of Education and Carnegie Learning on projects like UpGrade, an open-source A/B testing platform, underscore his innovative approach. Nirmal’s expertise will bolster ISAIL’s AiStandard.io Alliance, enhancing AI standardization in educational technologies and ensuring ethical, data-driven solutions for global learning ecosystems.
Emerging Specialists
Arletta Gorecka
An award-winning lecturer at Glasgow International College and a PhD scholar in law from the University of Strathclyde, Arletta Gorecka specializes in EU competition law, privacy, and data protection. Her 2024 book, The Interface between Competition Law and Data Privacy Law (Springer), and numerous scholarly articles establish her as a leading voice in digital market regulation. Her research on privacy as a theory of harm in competition law addresses critical legal challenges in AI-driven markets. Arletta’s expertise will support ISAIL’s AiStandard.io Alliance by advancing standardized frameworks for AI governance that prioritize data privacy and fair competition, fostering ethical AI deployment in digital economies.
Genevieve Donnellon-May
A geopolitical and global strategy advisor, Genevieve Donnellon-May focuses on regional resource governance and environmental conflict in Asia and Africa. Holding an MSc from the University of Oxford and recognized as a 2023 CSIS Pacific Young Leader and Yenching Global Scholar, she brings deep insights into the geopolitical implications of AI in resource management. Her work with institutions like the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and the Asan Institute for Policy Studies, along with contributions to journals like The Diplomat, strengthens her strategic perspective. Genevieve’s expertise will enhance ISAIL’s AiStandard.io Alliance by integrating geopolitical considerations into AI standardization, ensuring ethical and sustainable AI applications in resource-critical regions.
