Unveiled a Research Ethics Framework on Artificial Intelligence Use @ Manipal Research Colloquium 2025
From Abhivardhan, our President
Excited to the unveil the "Indo-Pacific Research Ethics Framework on Artificial Intelligence Use (IPac AI)".
Yes, you read that right.
In the speaking session (inaugural) for the Manipal Research Colloquium 2025, by the MAHE Student Research Forum, and the Directorate of Research of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education, I had unveiled the first edition of the Indo-Pacific Research Ethics Framework on Artificial Intelligence Use by my firm, Indic Pacific Legal Research LLP.
I was asked to speak on the ethics of AI use in research.
You can access the framework at https://indopacific.app/product/indo-pacific-research-ethics-framework-on-artificial-intelligence-use-ipac-ai/
Now, why is this framework important?
I have years of research experience, personally. I have lost count of how many tech law/policy or AI governance publications I have authored (it's around 40+) and so many blogs.
The purpose of developing this framework was simple: making research ethical when AI is used.
Let's be honest - people will use some copy-editing hack using AI, or would make diagrams, or would process so much data using AI. In fact in the keynote address by Dr Deepak Saini yesterday, it was discussed with the audience, like the ethical implications of using multiple datasets, based on parameters per user are huge.
This framework is helpful, open-access and simple, with mind maps, for researchers. Why?
You have any second doubts on data privacy and contract clauses on AI use? This framework can help.
You have some confusion on how market distortion misinforms your research pursuits? The framework can help.
I am happy that I received positive feedback from the audience, since they were interested in asking questions post-sessions, and well-received it. It's been a humbling experience.
I will discuss the IPac AI framework in detail, tomorrow. We did feature readings (in the framework) by Roger Spitz, Gary Marcus, Devansh Devansh and others as well.
