Speaking for Indian Forum for Public Diplomacy on "Algorithmic Bias and Ethical Dilemmas in AI-Driven Diplomacy" on July 12th!
From Abhivardhan, our President
Haha, so happy to share an announcement I kind of missed making since the registrations are now closed.
So the Indian Forum for Public Diplomacy (IFPD) led by its Director, Vrinda Chaturvedi is hosting an online bootcamp on the role of artificial intelligence in shaping global narratives.
I will speak on July 12th. Now, what intrigues me the most is the topic that I would be speaking on, i.e., "Algorithmic Bias and Ethical Dilemmas in AI-Driven Diplomacy".
AI and diplomacy is something I have personally cherished a lot as a topic in public policy, not because I have some obsession with retrofitting AI tools in diplomatic contexts.
My interest comes because of the intersection of international legal norms, and the realities of digital public governance or e-governance. I intend to cover these three most important questions in this session for IFPD:
1️⃣ How exactly the commercialisation of AI technologies would change the way public diplomacy works, especially when it comes to trust, information warfare and soft power considerations?
2️⃣ Do technical forms of biases in AI systems, and recommendation algorithms really affect diplomatic relations, from business-to-business ties and people-to-people ties to government-to-government ties?
3️⃣ Can diplomatic couture and approaches be used in enhancing better priorities for AI safety research and AI governance cooperation, in a time when regulators don't see eye to eye on regulating AI pretty well?
In fact, I have published on AI diplomacy since 2020 :) Here are some publications:
1️⃣ My latest book on "Normative Emergence in Cyber Geographies" for Indic Pacific Legal Research LLP: https://indopacific.app/product/normative-emergence-in-cyber-geographies-international-algorithmic-law-in-a-multipolar-technological-order-first-edition/

Down the memory lane: I think it was Corneliu Bjola's 2020 paper on AI and diplomacy that he had written for Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy which inspired me to love this field. Glad I like AI and international relations a lot.
