I was recently featured and quoted at The Indian Express on the technology behind deepfake pornography, its rise, dangers, how individuals can protect themselves, and what to do if photos or videos are being misused.
Happy to be co-quoted alongside Lohit Matani, Nagpur’s deputy commissioner of police (cyber). 🙏
While the Seoul AI Summit report of May 2024 (read my insight on the Summit: https://www.indicpacific.com/post/ai-seoul-summit-2024-decoding-the-international-scientific-report-on-ai-safety) makes it clear that content provenance measures might not be useful.
"Watermarks are useful, but they are an imperfect strategy for detecting AI-generated content because they can be removed [...]. However, this does not mean that they are not useful. As an analogy, fingerprints are easy to avoid or remove, but they are still very useful in forensic science."
Still, if this simple 101 insight on preventive measures against misuse of deepfakes as a multi-modal arrangement of synthetic content used helps, I'd be grateful I could help with this feature.
