Meeting AI builders at BharatGen, and what it means for building Responsible Innovation in India
From Abhivardhan, our Chairperson
While I would write a dedicatedly long post on my experience at the India Mobile Congress 2024 later this week, I thought let me share this photograph out of curiosity, and happiness.
Let me tell you who am I smiling with. These two folks are Anirudh Srinivasan and Pankaj Singh from BharatGen, via Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.
It's been merely 2 weeks since their product use case was disclosed to the whole world. I am not hyping, but I think their solution to make metadata gamification & entry for commercial vendors, using Generative AI is appreciative.
Their price estimation feature is also intriguing. Let's see how this project evolves.
What I intended to say was - that while I have been critical of hyped up #AI solutions, the intent has always been to be a healthy sceptic. There is no harm to look at how close-ended use cases of Generative AI might be helpful. I may not agree with everything in the India AI story, but I am happy if I am proven wrong on the earlier hyped-up AI solutions. It depends. I also want our genuine Indian AI solutions to win, which they deserve.
I also liked their young spirit to remain curious, and passionate. A harmless attempt to build embedded AI or integral AI, in India - must be appreciated.
This also reminds me of some of the former research interns (law & policy students) at Indian Society of Artificial Intelligence and Law - who I have mentored since 2020, and still counting.
Some still remember me, while some ignore me as if I don't exist. Maybe that is the problem with them, not me. Maybe the legal fraternity in India has made them like this. Still, I remember many of those, who I can always touch some base.
They are among the nicest & curious folks, who wish to do good things.
Hence, for Indians, whether in law, or AI, just stay curious, nice and let good ideas have a workflow. Stay cautious in the best normal way, but let the idea evolve & correct itself too. Responsible innovation has a long way to go for all.
