I was discussing some time back with Ayush and Anupam OP Pareek about the essence of communities in the law, and tech industry ecosystems in India, and it made me wonder - like we do not have a wholesome technology policy community in India beyond the gated abode of Delhi and Bengaluru, we don't have a law and tech community in a more inclusive way.
By inclusion - I mean that when you look at career trajectories in tech law, AI governance, legal tech & tech policy, I think many young people and experienced people face their own sets of issues. The young ones do not wish to engage on long-term basis with people who support them. For example, we at Indian Society of Artificial Intelligence and Law literally mentored 100-200 students of law, and policy since 2020. While many still remember us, there still are some - who use our name & legacy for jobs, and then forget us, as if we don't matter.
I think this needs to be broken. Enough is enough. We can't build an inclusive tech + law + policy community if we can't support independent voices, and talented/curious people.
Let me start the effort a little. I am well aware that some folks in my space will never acknowledge my kindness, but who cares anyways?
