ISAIL x NLU Shimla's AI and IP Law Centre Collaboration: Some Stats
From Abhivardhan, our President
Well well... May has been nothing less of eventful for me, and our Indian Society of Artificial Intelligence and Law community.
For me - I have lost count on how many research papers have I been writing on AI and public policy.
For ISAIL? Well, I had spoken in the solemn presence of the Vice-Chancellor of the Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla on the nice collaboration we had with Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property Rights of NLU Shimla.
Special thanks and regards to Koustubh Sharma for being a hospitable and kind student representative from the AI and IP Centre, who helped us and me a lot in making this event happen.
Well, it was a nice essay competition on which we collaborated, but we came up with some insane stats as we collected inputs from two stakeholders, students & research scholars (the participants) and professionals (the essay reviewers) on their respective perspectives on AI and Intellectual Property Law.
Here's some of the stats, from the surveys:
1️⃣ What's the most concerning legal challenge on the patentability of Natural Language Processing? Indian participants believe it is "the originality question" - 29%, followed by the "inventorship" dilemma, and then the "technical application hurdle".
2️⃣ 45.2% participant responses believe that balanced sector-specific regulations on AI and IP rights should be considered for Indian entities to negotiate with US trade bodies on the copyright and patent lawsuits happening around AI and IP Law. Interesting. Although some 29% also believe there should be a separate category of rights that could be created.
3️⃣ When an AI chatbot could affect or damage someone's reputation, 45.2% Indian respondents believe that balancing copyright and data protection could be a huge legal tension.
There is a lot of data that we haven't revealed.
Even if the dataset is small, it's unique and we find it successful in terms of getting some perspectives.
That being said, ISAIL.IN is open for more such documentation partnerships with like-minded organisations. Do DM me if you'd like to discuss such partnership avenues.
Also, we will announce some incomings on the ISAIL Advisory Council, pretty soon.
