ISAIL and UNU Global AI Network Collaborated for a Network Dialogue on AI Governance Localisation
From Sanjay Rohra, Chief Strategy Advisor
With utmost happiness, excitement and calm satisfaction, we announce the completion of a successful Network Dialogue with the UNU Global AI Network (a part of United Nations University) we had this Friday, this week, under the leadership of ISAIL President Abhivardhan.
What was the session about?
Well, we discussed a simple question.
AI adoption will increase or decrease globally, but even then, what could be the possible strategies for AI governance that can be adopted?
This is what we discussed in 5 phases:
1️⃣ Sovereignty & Interoperability
2️⃣ Proportionality in Governance
3️⃣ Essential Protective Functions
4️⃣ Distributed Oversight Models (Subsidiarity in regulatory implementation)
5️⃣ Technological Relevance (governance must address actual technological capabilities rather than theoretical possibilities)
We had the august presence of Dr Weiyu Zhang, Francis P. Crawley, Ayushi Agarwal, Christopher Zhu and Vishwam Jindal.
Stakeholders
Weiyu Zhang, Director, The Civic Tech Lab, National University of Singapore
Christopher ZHU, Co-chair, CODATA Connect, Committee on Data of the International Science Council
Francis P. Crawley, Chair, CODATA International Data Policy Committee (IDPC)
Ayushi Agarwal, Patron Member, Indian Society of Artificial Intelligence and Law
Vishwam Jindal, CEO, WebNyay
Abhivardhan, President, Indian Society of Artificial Intelligence and Law (Moderator)
Bahadur Shah, Patron Member, Indian Society of Artificial Intelligence and Law (Co-Moderator)
Specific Problem Statement: How can Global South countries develop context-specific AI governance implementation strategies that balance limited regulatory resources with effective oversight, while ensuring genuine multistakeholder participation?
And honestly, the session was so nice that all speakers added some amazing points, and it truly became a multidisciplinary interaction.
