Indic Pacific has contributed 14 Publications on AI Hype and Economic Law since November 2022, long before the ChatGPT Hype started
From Abhivardhan, ft. Indic Pacific Legal Research
Well, turns out I just undersell myself.
So, Indic Pacific Legal Research is the only or among India's few research & consulting firms, which has published 14 works (6 reports, 1 manual, 7 articles) since November 2022 until August 2025 on AI Hype and Economic Law. This is historic not because of the number of publications in this niche.
Economic law has a huge substantive law component in civil law and economic crimes - which is reliant upon market analysis.
While in my upcoming economic law analysis of GPT-5 I will showcase all 14 works on AI hype and economic law, let's talk some history.
A former NUS singapore professor's takes on AI hype inspired me to understand AI hype in my podcasting journey for The Bharat Pacific by the Indian Society of Artificial Intelligence and Law.
That inspired me to read about AI market hype, because competition law is a funny subject.
1️⃣ I published a simple report with Bhavana J and Poulomi Chatterjee on defining plausible legal working conditions on AI hype for the first time in India (yes there was no such independent research in Nov 2022).
2️⃣ In the meantime, I came across the idea of derivative AI tools made out of large language models like ChatGPT in Feb 2023 (which I wrote as a blog) and wrote about it from a perspective of AI Hype.
Then - in April 2023, I published a very crucial input (in detail) on possible AI and work replacement implications.
Then - with Yashudev Bansal - I published one of India's firsts proper GenAI regulation report and pointed out the impact of hype causing situation to distinguish AI use cases as stable and unstable.
Then with a friend of mine - I published a report on Auditing AI Companies for Corporate Internal Investigations in September 2023.
3️⃣ Fast-forward to 2024: India's G20 & GPAI presidencies ended, Japan achieved a Hiroshima consensus under G7, and I had examined the TESCREAL problem where the whole GenAI narrative became an unhinged philosophical cult - which also contributed to AI hype - believe it or not.
I also started reading and writing about the "AGI Clause" associated with Microsoft-OpenAI relations which was absolute fun.
4️⃣ Then in early 2025 - I spoke in a workshop at Hyderabad about AI Framework Fatigue, which was again about how a lot of regulatory literature on AI (most of it was of non-binding nature, and highly manipulative or anxiety-driven) caused problems for developers and product managers to make AI compliant and ethical. This is again another side of AI hype.
5️⃣ The Manipal Academy of Higher Education had invited me and I had presented them the Indo-Pacific Research Ethics Framework on AI Use - with a chapter dedicated to AI Hype. That was April 2025.
This just made my Sunday.
P.S.: While Gary Marcus's work on LLM literacy and market hype is over, my work on analysing legal risks out of AGI Hype has just started.
