Deepfakes, Digital India & Election Commission of India's Regulatory Authority: Abhivardhan quoted & interviewed by Social Samosa
From the ISAIL Secretariat
Our Founder & Chairperson, Abhivardhan, was interviewed by a media platform, Social Samosa.
Here is a post from Abhivardhan exploring bits of the interview.
I was recently interviewed by Social Samosa about the state of Deepfakes regulation in #India.
You can find my quoted points at https://www.localsamosa.com/people-culture/deepfakes-in-lok-sabha-elections-2024-4508294
Now, on deepfakes use in the General Elections of 2024, whenever a concerned citizen should feel aggrieved, they must submit their concerns to the Election Commission of India, and if necessary, even file a Writ Petition or PIL in the High Courts or the Supreme Court.
From a technology law vantage point, the Rule 3(1)(b) of the 2021 Information Technology Rules also can be invoked by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to take necessary action.
However, as I have been waiting for a tangible Digital India Act draft for an year now, my view on AI regulation is clear that we must not hasten regulating AI in India.
Still, I am of the view that we can regulate deepfakes, using content provenance measures. You can find my suggestions on regulating deepfakes in the Chapter X of AIACT.IN (version 2), India's first private AI bill proposal. I am open to feedback to my proposed AIACT.IN draft as always.
